            100AD              First Islamic School Started in Bornu.

            1450                 Arabic Schools were established in Sokoto, Kaduna and Kano.

            1472                 Benin Kingdom was established by the Portuese.

            1500                 Islamic religion started in Northern Nigeria.

            1777                 Society for the abolition of slave trade was established.

            1802                 Fulani Jihad was lauched under Usman Dan Fodio.

            1805                 Usman Dan Fadio conquered Bornu.

            1841                 Methodist Church established  at Badagry.

            1859                 First Secondary School in Nigeria CMS Grammar School Lagos was  
                                     established at Badagry, Lagos

            1860                 First Newspaper in Nigeria published (Iwe Iroyin)

            1895                 The first Nigeria Hospital was build at Abeokuta (Sacred Heart Hospital).

            1898                 The name "Nigeria" was given by Lady Lord Lugard.

            1861                 Rev. Samuel Ajayi Crowder ordained the first African Bishop and he died 
                                     in1891.

            1899                 The first Government Primary School was established at Badagry, 
                                     Lagos.

            1901                 completion of Lagos-Ibadan Railway line (123miles).

            1905                 Completion of first motor road in Nigeria Ibadan Oyo.

            1906                 Federal Capital of Nigeria moved from Calabar to Lagos.

            1914                 Northern and Southern Nigeria was amalgamated.

            1918                 Paper money (Currency) became a legal tender in Nigeria.

            1920                 Apapa Wharf was officially opened.

            1922                 First political party in Nigeria established (NNPP) by Herbert Macaulay.

            1925                 First Aeroplane landed in Nigeria at Kano State.

            1949                 Nigeia Tribune Newspaper was established by Awolowo.

            1958                 Central Bank of Nigeria was established.

            1959                 First Television Station iin Nigeria WMTV now NTA in Ibadan.

            1960                 Nigeria attained Independence.

            1963                 Nigeria became a Republic.

            30, May 1967    Proclamation of the Republic of Biafra.

            20, Aug. 1967   Biafra army Captured Ore.

            Oct. 13, 1967    More than 1000 Igbos were massacred in Asaba by Nigeria Troops.

            Jan. 27 1968     New Currency was introduced.

            April 1968         Afikpo was captured by Nigeria Soldiers.

            Jan. 12, 1970    Gen. Philip Effion announced Biafra's Surrender.

            1972                 Nigeria changed from left to right hand drive.

            1973                 N.Y.S.C was established.

            1973                 Nigeria changed to the use of naira and kobo.

            Feb. 13, 1976    Dimka led abortive Coup which Gen. Mohammed was assassinated.

            1980                 Nigeria won African Cup of Nation in Nigeria.

            Dec. 31, 1983    Gen. Buhari Overthrown shagari's Government

            1985                 Nigeria won U-17 Junior World Cup in China.

            Aug. 27, 1985   Gen Babangida overthrown Buhari Government

            Oct. 19, 1986    Dele Giwa was killed letter bomb.

            1988                 Nigeria changed her Police uniform to black.

            1991                 Federal Capital was moved from Lagos to Abuja.

            1993                 Nigeria qualified  for the World Cup for the  first time, USA 1994.

            1993                 Nigeria won U-17 Junior World Cup in Japan.

            June 12, 1993   President Election between Abiola and Tofa

            June 23, 1993   The Election was cancelled by Babangida

            1994                 Nigeria won African Cup of Nationa in Tunesia

            June 11, 1994   M.K.O Abiola declared himself president

            June 23, 1994   M.K.O Abiola was arrested and detained.

            Sept. 1, 1994    Ray Power commenced broadcasting service in Nigeria.

            Nov. 10, 1995    Saro Wiwa and Eight others were hanged by Abacha Government.

            1996                 Nigeria won the Olympic male soccer Gold Medal made in Atlanta USA.

            June 4, 1996     Kudirat Abiola was killed by assassins.

            Dec. 21, 1997    Alleged Coup plot against Abacha led by Gen. Giya

            June 8, 1998     Gen. Sani Abacha died in ASO ROCK (head of state)

            July 7, 1998      M.K.O Abiola died in detention.

            Dec. 1999         The new N100 note was introduced

            Dec. 2000         The new N200 note was introduced     

            Nov. 17, 2001    Miss Agbani Darego of Nigeria became the first to win Miss World in the Whole 

                                     Africa.

            Dec. 2001         The new N500 note was introduced.
     

            2, Feb. 2002      Nigeria Police went on strike for the first time.

            27, Jan. 2002    Ikeja Bomb Explosion Occurred.

            Oct. 22, 2005    Bellview Plane Crash in Ogun State.

            Oct. 23, 2005    First Lady (Mrs Stella Obasanjo) died after surgery in Spain.

            Dec. 10, 2005    Sosoliso Plane Crashed in Port Harcourt.

            2007                 Nigeria won U-17 Junior World Cup in Korea
